MAY 2026
For six days we follow the St. Olavs Trail from the Baltic coast and into the forests of Jämtland. The hike goes from Selånger through cultural landscapes, along quiet waterways and through deep forests before ending in Gällö in Jämtland. This is a historical route with visible traces of past hikers – in the form of old buildings, ruins, legends and cultural monuments. We live as pilgrims for a week, with simple accommodation and community as an important part of the experience.
Practical information
The tour is led by Hilde Kirkvold and Johannes Schumacher, both certified pilgrim guides with extensive experience. Along the way, they share stories about Norse mythology, medieval beliefs, pilgrimage traditions and the life of St. Olav.

Practical help – social community
The organized hike is an offer of help with accommodation, meals and luggage transport along the way. Through these hikes, you also get to participate in groups where the pilgrims create an environment along the way, which is often a lack along our routes where there are fewer pilgrims than in more southern areas. Embarking on a long-distance hike together is a special challenge and an experience for both new and experienced hikers. The offer is intended to help those interested in experiencing the simple joys of pilgrimage. You must adapt to the group community and assist each other, together with a hiking guide and some volunteer helpers. For more practical advice, see pilegrimsleden.no.
Personal responsibility
Before you sign up, we assume that you are able to complete a hike of around 20 km a day over several days. You are responsible for your own travel and accommodation to Selånger and from the hiking destination, which is Gällö.
Furthermore, it is assumed that you have taken out your own relevant insurance; travel insurance and any other personal insurance you may need.
Is this a religious hike?
The motivation for going on a pilgrimage has always been diverse – and it is still the case today. Whether you are hiking for religious reasons, looking for an active holiday or want strong nature experiences, you are welcome. It is important that you thrive in community; sharing everyday life over several days can be as memorable as the hike itself.
